The space is beautiful. Gorgeous views overlooking their beautiful garden while you tuck into fresh, in-season produce. Their specialty, the tofu, is creamy and delicate. Truly the best tofu we've ever had. They only had set lunches at around ¥2,000++ when we visited. Minimum order of 1 set/pax. We had to top up for the sesame ice cream.

Yudofu Sagano is an outstanding Kyoto-style tofu restaurant located in easy walking distance from popular sightseeing destinations Tenryuji Temple and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. The set course we chose (Sagano Gozen) came with a wide selection of superb dishes built on tofu or vegetables in general - see the pictures. Highly recommended (but try to make a reservation).

One of my most memorable meals in Japan. I hadn't planned it but was wandering in the area and one of my best decisions ever. It is a set menu around tofu - sesame tofu, boiled tofu, pudding... with tempura and several side dishes that were all extra tasty. A great way to discover traditionnal japanese cuisine but vegetarian, taste dishes you never imagined, in a traditionnal japanese house and a very zen garden ! A bit on the pricier side, but truly something you can only experience in Kyoto.
