Kyoto, Japan｜Shushu Kyoto Gion Minami Honten

Very cool little restaurant where you order the meat and cook it on a grill they bring to your table. We had beef cheeks, tongue, and chicken skin with a salad. They also have a good beer selection, including non-alcoholic options. The restaurant was a little hard to find. It is on a narrow street, and the sign is in Japanese. They had a large magnetized clear plastic curtain covering the storefront so you could see in and out, but the AC didn't escape. This allowed for a great view of people passing on the street. The staff spoke basic English and were very courteous and helpful. The price was also very reasonable.

1. Food is great, service is great, staff is friendly, accepted my son's special diet needs so he had a great time there. His first restaurant meal on our 5th day in Osaka/Kyoto area. (he is allergic to fish, gluten, the list is rather long but these two greatly reduce his choice of Japanese food). 2. Place has not an extensive choice of cuts from a specific animal but what they have hit the spot in meat flavours and texture choices. If you are more adventurous, you can also try their large selection of innards cuts. 3. Place is clean.

Really good grill restaurant. You can choose grill or boiled water to cook your meat. There are several meat options and vegetables. You can also order some rice and middles. Prices are good and you can also order draft or bottle beer. I would definitely recommend pork belly and outside skirt. Inside the restaurant is pretty hot since there are grills on each table.
