The. Best. Gyoza. Jump in a tardis like elevator to the 2nd floor of this magical tiny little gyoza house. Gyoza are handmade and fresh as a daisy, with amazing flavours. The Yuzu a standout from a standout bunch. Waitress knows a bit of English for an Aussie like me. The kids loved it too. Highly recommend.

"The best gyozas in the world." This was how this place was recommended to me, and it's definitely worth a visit in Kyoto. Anzukko is a gyoza + bar concept that's fairly hidden on the second floor; not something you'd go to unless you know about it. Their iconic gyozas are cooked to order (and served) in cast iron, contributing to the ludicrously crispy crust. Balanced fillings are complemented by light vinegar on the side. Having visited right after a filling sushi dinner still opted to go for a pan of six signature gyozas (was ¥660/S$6) - reasonably priced for the offerings. They also have other interesting flavours such as yuzu and camembert, calling for a future visit. Drinks were simple and affordable - Japanese highballs, sours, and chūhais for about ¥600-700 as well. Bookings highly recommended to avoid disappointment; we went two nights in a row and gyozas had sold out on the second night when we came late! Disappointment averted, when we got drinks and had a lovely conversation with the owner and his protege behind the bar.

Amazing Gyoza and authentic small Japanese bar vibes. We got the 2 people set menu and it was perfect. Hostess and waiter were lovely and friendly. After our meal he even brought out a tiny globe and asked where we were from, super cute and lovely. Couldn't recommend highly enough.
