More Comments at Google MapStumbled onto Miyagawa Tonemon while looking for tonkatsu in Kyoto. Tucked away in a small quiet alley along the performance district. This turned out to be one of the best Tonkatsu we’ve had. Ordered the limited edition pork loin from Yamanashi and it was absolutely DIVINE. Melt in your fatty goodness without it being too greasy. It was hands down amazing and I enjoyed every bite of it. My spouse had the Hayashi Pork Loin and it was delicious as well. I appreciated the assortment of sauces to pair with the pork loin so every bite is different if you choose to. We topped up our dish to a set meal for ¥400, and again, blown away by how yummy the pork miso soup is. Very generous with the ingredients and packed full of flavour. After a meal, they served Yuzu Sherbet and genmaicha to end off the meal. Service was impeccable, and friendly. The store also have an English menu for easier browsing. Really appreciate their hospitality. Highly recommend coming by if you’re around the area.
You know this restaurant is designed for serious Tonkatsu lovers when the entire menu is based on 3 types of pork combinations. We opted for the Japanese bred SPF variety, as most of the other 2 offerings - Hungarian bred specialty and Tokyo blend of 3 different pork specialty were out of stock. The loin I had was juicy with just the right bite and chew. An absolute delight IMHO except for some parts which are nothing but just pure lardo 😊. The batter skin was thin but didn’t adhere well. The tenderloin my hubby had was less fatty, but I found it to be stronger porky taste. Their house made tonkatsu sauce is now my new benchmark for future Tonkatsu 😊. I think the Japanese bred pork suited our palate well. We are probably not quite the Tonkatsu connoisseur who prefers a good amount of lard to meat ratio. Nonetheless we very much enjoyed our lunch - thank you chef and team 😁.
Chanced upon this place while looking for a lunch spot on the way to Hokanji Temple. Located in a quiet alley, the ambience and vibes after stepping inside was so modern, cool and minimalistic. Staff was really warm and friendly (speaks good English!). I ordered the Hayashi SPF Pork Tenderloin — I’d like to think this is the most tender cut of pork I have ever had. It was delicious and crusted well. Not forgetting the great pork miso soup. Felt like the whole dining experience was very well thought through. Wished my stomach could take in another portion of this tonkatsu. Will definitely make the trip here if I’m back in Kyoto!
