Kyoto, Japan｜Nigiri Chojiro - Kitayama Shichiku

We loved lunch at Nigiri Chojiro. This restaurant is off the beaten tourist path being 23 min walk from Kimkaku-ji castle or a bus ride from elsewhere but it was totally worth it for us. Sushi as fresh as it gets, conveyor belt is cool, and we watched one of the chefs get live fish from the large fish tank. While the staff doesn’t speak English, they are really friendly and we had no problem ordering via a tablet that had an English option.

Excellent high grade sushi prepared skillfully and presented artistically. The tablet menu has English Chinese and Korean t recommend the toro sushi, it's fantastic. Friendly staff is very helpful.

Staff doesn't speak English, but you can order on a tablet in multiple languages. Fish are fresh (cooks take living fish from aquarium inside the restaurant) and delicious. Simple 2 nigiri plate comes very fast, for sets you have to wait, but not very long. It's a popular place among locals so there's a chance you'll have to wait for a free table. I ate sushi at many places in Europe and none of them comes even close to this restaurant. It was one of my best restaurant experiences ever. I'll definitely come back.
