Himeji, Hyogo, Japan｜Izakaya Gonta

A very typical-feeling Izakaya with a few vegan options on the menu! The yaki-udon was nice, and the mapo tofu wasn’t bad. The Himeji highballs (ginger highballs) went down very nicely too! The real reason this place gets 5 stars though is the service. As we were finishing up, the waitress, unprompted, brought us a little dish of lemon(?) sorbet each. She happily told us it was vegan as she was giving it to us, so they must have noticed what we had been ordering - we never said anything to any of the staff. A really sweet and kind touch! It was a lovely, refreshing end to the meal too.

This place makes it easy to order with the table iPad. I found delicious vegan options! A tip is to use your phone to help translate some of the options if you’re unsure of what they are. Also be warned, since this is a bar smoking is allowed indoors. Regardless, I was able to order delicious vegan food. I had the veggie fried udon and it was delicious!
