Karuizawa, Nagano, Japan｜Restaurant Hamy's 軽井沢

Outstanding service and food. The Schnitzel was original and just perfect. The owner and Chef worked in Austria and brought back the original recipe. The menu has a great selection of European food. Our host was highly attentive and knew all about the served food. Overall a great experience and will return again if the opportunity is given.

Hamy’s is actually two places - a cafe (daytime only) and a restaurants. Both allow dogs inside which is unusual in Karuizawa - but with unpredictable weather, it’s definitely welcome. We went to the restaurant in the evening with our Chihuahua and daughter. Looking at the ambiance of the small restaurant and the prices on the menu, this place seems expensive - but actually it ended up no more expensive than most other restaurants we’d been to in Karuizawa, and the food was far the best we have eaten in Karuizawa. The kids menu was well loved by my daughter and the hotatte main was the best cooked hotatte I’ve had for a long long time - thick, juicy, and melting in the mouth with a flavoursome light sauce. In Japan hotatte is usually cooked in butter and I was glad to taste that this wasn’t the usually buttery hotatte. We also had a half fondue which was perfect size for two when shared with another main dish. If you have a pet, or just want an above average food experience, I definitely recommend this place.

Very delicious and may seem expensive but the quality more than makes up for it! Can bring your dogs too! Out dogs can be very picky about what to eat but they absolutely devoured what they were given!
