Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan｜Araki Tempura Restaurant

We are not usually fans of tempura cuisine but this was probably as good as tempura gets. The batter was light and not oily, and remained crisp! Ingredients were fresh and the batter brought out the best of these. We had an assortment of seasonal items like seasonal greens and mantis shrimp. There was a wide variety of fish, shellfish and vegetables. The sake collection was also very good. Chef speaks some English but the wait staff were able to translate ingredients competently. He makes you feel welcome so you wouldn't feel intimidated or out of place!

The best tempura I have had, ever! The tempura dishes were exceptional. They had the lightest batter and were fried brilliantly! Their two Michelin stars is well deserved. Service was fantastic, the chef was incredibly friendly and did his best to explain in English his dishes. The sweet potato was crispy on the outside and caramelized inside. Worth the visit to Japan just for this! Make your reservations well in advance.

Best 2-starred tempura (japanese deep-fried dish) restaurant in Sapporo. Amazingly fresh and juicy vegetable fritters are really exceptional. Uni- maki (sea urchin's organ wrapped in seaweed) tempura was... cannot express... Must paired with highball, japanese whiskey cocktail.
