Kamakura, Kanagawa, Japan｜Magokoro

Four of us had a fantastic meal on a sunny Sunday in October. We enjoyed the set meal the curry, the gyozas and the fish and chips. The service was quick and friendly and even bought some gloves.

Really great location and view, and cozy hipster place with chill atmosphere. There are a lot of hemp choices for vegans, the staff is friendly and laid back, main issue was only a brief language barrier. The food was extremely good, the cake was delicious and if it weren’t just a tiny expensive portion I would’ve ordered a second one. The menu doesn’t have a vegan symbol next to the items. It is mostly easy to discern by reading ingredients, but for example 2 dishes which were described in a general way were made with fish. This was explained by the staff as I asked, with patience and care, but I think having symbols for quick choice and avoiding the one vegan customer just ordering and not asking further beforehand would be good. Be also mindful not to come too late. As they don’t have unlimited reserves of food and it’s a very valued restaurant. I would give only two recommendations to the owners: slightly bigger portions and indicating on the menu with a symbol which dishes are vegan, otherwise great place to continue or conclude your trip to Kamakura!

Amazing restaurant. I tried their fish lunch, consisting on a fish of the day with a side salad, a rice bowl, tsukemono (pickled vegetables) and a cream soup. It was ¥2,000 and absolutely worth it. Everything was delicious. You have nice views of Yuigahama Beach from the windows of the restaurant. Very friendly staff and English menu available. Cozy atmosphere with relaxing music, perfect to spend a nice time chilling. This restaurant was featured in the film ‘Our little sister’ (海街diary). Will come back for sure.
