Kyotango, Kyoto, Japan｜Gocchan

Who would expect, in all my travels around Japan eating at a plethora of highly rated Izakaya restaurants in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, this little hidden beauty only 5 mins walk from my wife’s family’s house in Kyotango would be my Number 1 favorite restaurant in Japan. I have been here probably 5 or 6 times over the last 15 years and every time I am just amazed at the fantastic quality of dishes they produce, with excellent service as well. It is truly an awesome dining experience and I recommend any westerner like myself, either staying close too or transiting near Kyotango to try this little gem of a restaurant as you will not be disappointed.

I've been wondering about it for a long time, and when I tried to make a reservation, I was refused because it was full, so I contacted them early and finally was able to go. On the day I went, it was full with families, groups, and singles. The atmosphere is good, and the food is of various genres, and all of them were delicious.

It is a cozy shop.
