Small little place on the corner ran by a husband and wife. Neither spoke any English but fortunately the menus have some English on them anyway, plus there was a very nice patron there who spoke a bit of English. These folks are an absolute gem and gave me their recommendations when I wasn’t sure what to pick. They also gave me the name of this purple seasoning to put on rice. They were glad when I said the food was delicious! It was also very cheap. I ate to my fill for under ¥1,000. As someone from a high cost of living city in the US, this was amazing. They were also so surprised I found them on google! So modest! I would gladly come here again if I’m ever in Kyoto. They were great! Side note: cash only

The food here looks ordinary, but tastes great. The omelet with mushrooms inside invites much rice to eat. Minced beef cutlet is crispy and flavorful. Miso soup is one of the best I have had in Japan. The price is very cheap, 770yen for the today’s special. I think today’s cooking trends are great look, ordinary taste, expensive price. This restaurant goes against all of them.

Delicious, hot food, freshly prepared and served by the owner - a kind, friendly man. Miso soup here is the best I've ever tasted also their curry is absolutely flavorful! Definitely worth returning here again!
