Osaka, Japan｜Sumibiyaki Wakon

This place was amazing! Quick to be seated in the tiny yakitori bar. Seating at the counter meant quick service for icy beers. They have a full English menu and a “customer favourites” section. We ordered two of each favourite and were blown away. Then we ordered more from the rest of the menu. You literally can’t go wrong with the grilled skewer section of the menu. Everything was a stand out but I’ll be dreaming about returning for the chicken thigh and green onion. You also must get the cucumber salad with all that meat to help refresh to palette. So fresh, crisp and vibrant. It’s cramped and gets smoky as one head chef grills away all night. A classic Japanese vibe that felt very welcoming as foreigners. Absolutely loved it.

I wish I could teleport back to Japan to eat this. The best yakitori spot I’ve been to in Osaka! Had no expectations since I was just walking around looking for a late night drink and snack but I left very happy. Every skewer was tender and bursting with flavour - I honestly didn’t know chicken thigh could be so delicious.

food is amazing. highly recommend the chicken neck, fatty pork, and beef kalbi skewers. it's a nice small bar counter restaurant where the chef skewers meat and cooks them in front of you. there's air conditioning inside and the smoke doesn't get all in your face.
