More Comments at Google MapAlthough I don't like the bread, they have a variety of authentic (??) pastries. "Authentic" in that they are not like Japanified bakeries, it tastes like a nice bakery in the US or Europe.
Personally one of my fav bakeries, and I know many in this city. It is a small shop with an orange awning, near Goshominiami. It’s a real neighborhood joint and lots of office workers go there to pick something up for lunch too. I’ve tried many and they have the best loaves of sour dough (plain/olive or brown). So many different varieties of brown breads (which are rare to find in Kyoto). Are they Nordic in origin? They are very heavy which I assume means packed with lots of nutrients. Their carrot cake is to die for and tastes like home; it reminds me of my childhood in the US. I always get some pizza dough breads (different cheese-less toppings like buttery mushroom or zucchini depending on the time or day). Walnut and Gorgonzola rolls. A seasonal doughy roll with a creamy filling of shallots (or were they green onions?) Just an amazing selection of sweet and savory, specialty loaves of breads. They are always changing it up. Will share picture soon!
One of the best whole wheat loaves in the city. I felt as if my prayers had been answered after finding this place! No more fluffy shokupan!
