This place is a hidden gem, and easily the best Japanese curry I’ve ever had. It was a crazy crowded night when we went to Pontocho and we completely stumbled onto this place by accident. It was an upstairs hole-in-the-wall that seems to be run by an elderly and sweet husband and wife team, with the husband cooking and the wife taking orders. We happened to be the only people in the small restaurant, which only had two tables and a couple of stools. I ordered the veggie curry and my husband ordered the beef curry. The owner got to work and within ten minutes we had freshly made, piping hot curry on our tables. safe to say we completely devoured it. What I loved about my veggie curry (which I highly recommend) was not only the taste but the diversity and abundance of veggies I had, all of which absorbed the curry in its own unique and exciting way. Basically, don’t sleep on this easy-to-miss and underrated place. Their food is an explosion of flavor for a hard-to-beat price, kind service, and very special type of ambience.

the best vegetable curry ever!! chanced upon this place and we were the only customers that day. ran by a sweet elderly couple in a cozy space. they'll start to make your food after your order, the mushroom soup was made from scratch, so comforting. the vegetables were so fresh and had such a beautiful diversity of colors.

A little bar with drinks and curry, tucked away on the second floor amidst the alleys of Gion. I had the beef curry and it was excellent, very filling, and the beef was tender like a pot roast.
