Kyoto, Japan｜Shokudo Ruins

We were visiting from the UK and this was stand out the best place we are in Kyoto (and we enjoyed a lot). Al a carte all good for my wife, j had the two course set menu for 2600 JPY (about £19). We enjoy fine dining restaurants in the UK but this stood up to them easily for fabulous flavours. The soup was out of this world flavour-wise, then fantastic Venison. Really lovely spot too, super friendly staff. Come here for goodness sake!

You will not be disappointed. If you’re eating there are plenty of meat options and for others, there’s some good choice of fish and vegetables. The food was delicious and you can tell it is made with love. Cool vibe too.

Stumbled upon this place after we couldn’t get into anywhere else in Kyoto. We were warmly greeted, the food and wine was excellent, and we just loved the funky space and great ambience with perfect music. We appreciated being treated with so much kindness and respect (unlike many places in Kyoto). The osso bucco with mushroom risotto was absolutely sensational. Highly recommended!
