Kyoto, Japan｜Sakura-an

I've been in Japan for over a year and this is one of my absolute favourites. The people running the place are adorable and the food is both delicious and incredibly cheap / good value. I had the spicy kitsune zaru udon and highly recommend it. The atmosphere is polite, quiet and friendly.

Great lunch place for after visiting Kinkaku-Ji. English menu available. Very clean and tidy and affordable. I tried the recommended Kyoto-style Udon which have a more starchy soup and it was delicious. The people there were very kind.

Wow. Found this little husband and wife gem after a visit to Kinkaku-Ji. Wife was too shy to have her photo taken. We sat at the bar and had the privilege to watch them in action and they make an exceptional team. The restaurant is clean and simple which is reflected in the food. I had the spicy mushroom and egg udon with and it was perfect in many ways. I’ve never been a big fan of Udon but these were home made and didn’t have the stickiness or gluggy-ness that i have been accustomed to back home. The broth is definitely the highlight, it was delicious and you can taste the depth and clarity of flavour in the ingredients used. Well worth the little waddle from the temple to dine here. Exceptional place.
