Bob’s Burgers meets Tokyo Midnight Diner. Located in a grilled meats neighbourhood, we are super impressed by the one-man-show that the chef has run. The flavour and texture of okonomiyaki is true and respects the ingredients immensely. Waiting time is just as advices (20~30 mins) but you get to watch him literally cook it in front of you. Yakisoba was refreshing and all around addictive textures. Prices are affordable given we had ordered generously for 2 (w/alcoholic drinks). Don’t go looking for highly google reviewed places and miss out on potential hidden gems.

We had the most delicious dinner in Kyoto and hands down the best Okonomiyaki I've ever had in my life. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place and can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

SUMMARY - OKONOMIYAKI AT ITS FINEST (AS LONG AS YOU HAVE TIME TO WAIT!) I had the mixed okonomiyaki (chef’s special) (~¥1550), a grapefruit highball (¥700) drink and the Japanese omelette dish with spring onions (~¥750). We were also served the free starter which is sliced tofu in (I believe) a mixture of miso and some other sauce. Potentially the best starter I have tried in Japan so far. It is a one man shop and it has very good vibes, the chef is friendly and his English is good. If you want to get a feel of how it is to feast like a local try out this gem of a find. The place is quite small so please only come here if you are single or 2-3 people. The star of the show - okonomiyaki - was filling and tasty, sweet and a bit salty full of different ingredients. This is worth your attention. The only real downside to this place is that only small groups should visit (due to limited size) and it does take some time to get your food to your eyes. Don’t expect this to be fast food. This is food that is being skillfully prepared by the chef. Give him the time he requires and you will have a delicious meal! While the omelette did not have the same visual appeal as other places I have tried Japanese omelette, the flavour profile and general taste is better as omelette in Japan is generally a bit neutral to my taste preferences. This dish is packed with spring onions and black pepper which enhances the taste. Do note that this is a cash only place — they do not accept VISA OR MASTERCARD. WHAT I ORDERED 5/5 AMBIENCE 3/5 STAFF 5/5 HOW I PAID 2/5
