More Comments at Google MapDelicious meal prepared by 80 year old grandma. She has been in the originally teahouse for 50 years now. Very accomodating and lovely. I highly recommend the herring soba, price has increased by 200 yen which is now 1200 yen but it has eggplant tempura and tofu. All dishes are made and grown locally around the area. The tofu is amazing, never tried anything like it. She shared about the struggle around the area after a bukkyo monk who was based behind her restaurant passed away 2 years ago which cause business to fall in the area, but she has remained in the area because of her age. we feel so much love and care from her, which made me want to one day come and help her with the teahouse!!
What a gem we found!! A very simple, authentic eatery run by the sweetest 80 year old grandma. We had the herring soba and udon. Would have liked to try the tofu sets but apparently advanced reservation was needed. Everything was delicious!! We were even surprised by a little dessert grandma bought us after. As others have said, grandma takes time to share a little about herself and her restaurant after. She even tried to teach us some regional Japanese. A truly memorable meal. Ōkini 🙂
The most authentic experience that we had so far in Kyoto for sure. It’s a small place run by a grandma. We had hot herring soba soup and it was delicious. The owner lady is very friendly and even though she doesn’t speak much of English after the meal she spent some time sharing some info about the house and herself to us. Definitely recommend for visiting if you are around in this area.
