More Comments at Google MapDelicious kansai style okonomiyaki, they offer Hiroshima style as well. It was easy to get to the street, but we walked past the actual restaurant as it was up a flight of stairs, so remember to look up if you are looking for it. The ladies were friendly and made a great effort to speak English. There is a menu that has some English on it. If you're craving okonomiyaki it's a nice little place!
Great food! A family style restaurant, friendly service. Highly recommend!
I’m vacationing with a buddy who’s been to Japan four other times and knows the language enough to get around, but he hurt his hip and has been out of commission for the day. I have anxiety issues so venturing out on my own—especially in a foreign country I’ve never been to before at night—is terrifying, but I needed to eat and didn’t want to keep eating at the konbini in the hotel. I decided to try okonomiyaki and this was the closest from my hotel according to Google maps. The place was a little hard to find because the staircase is tucked away into the side of the building, but I did find it thanks to the banners on the sidewalk and the building with the logo for a brand of okonomiyaki sauce. One of the ladies (who I assume is the owner) spoke English very well and was kind enough to explain everything to me and walk me through the process in English (I was ready to Google translate if I had to). She was also very patient with me because this was my first time at an okonomiyaki restaurant (I’ve only ever made it at home thanks to okonomiyaki kits I can get from a Japanese grocery). She also conversed with me about where I came from, what activities I was doing in Japan, and Pokémon—it was nice to be able to talk to someone other than my friend since so few people in Japan are completely fluent in English. I ordered a Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. It was a fairly good size and it was thick. I used the sweet okonomiyaki sauce on it (there were also two others of varying degrees of spiciness). I’ve never eaten one with noodles in it, but it was very delicious!. The okonomiyaki and the Coke cost almost 1,500 yen (roughly $15 US), which seemed reasonable to me. So great customer service and great food at a decent price with an English speaking employee/possible owner as an added bonus. If I get the chance to come back here before I go back home, I want to try this place again.
