Shimonita, Gunma, Japan｜Kiyoshiya Shokudo

You gotta come here if you want to experience an old school Japanese eatery. The Shimonita Katsu-don here is hands down the most enjoyable donburi food I’ve had in Gunma. The shop has both tatami-floor seating as well as a few regular tables. That being said this place often has a line to get in as it is busy with families, locals, and passerby’s.

Located right near Shimonita Station. It's run by an elderly couple, and you can get your own water and tea. When the food is ready, the people sitting in the tatami seats go to pick it up. The sauce is a sweet and salty soy sauce flavor. It was crispy and delicious! When you finish your meal, set the table yourself.

The service is full of affection, although it is brisk. Careful soup stock. It's not flashy, but the deliciousness is immediately apparent when you take a bite. I felt that this was a state of affairs that could only have been achieved by Mr. Kiyoshi, who pursued the essence of cooking and restaurants. I admire the life of Mr. Kiyoshi, who dedicated his life to katsudon, and offer my deepest salute.
