Kusatsu, Gunma, Japan｜KAMIFUJI

Very nice place just a little outside the main plaza, less crowded and more relaxed atmosphere. Old school interior (awesome) which brings you back in time. Restaurant led by a lovely elderly couple serving good food for good price. Touch of authenticity. There is a small shrine nearby which is a plus. Feels a little like in Miyazakis’s movies. The couple speaks japanese only, but is helpful.

We went there for a lunch and loved it. It is run by a nice older couple, and is so cozy! It has only 4 tables (and a TV ;) ), but we were able to sit right away. It serves great soba/udon dishes between 600-900yen. We ordered tempura soba and it was a hot, refreshing soup with soba noodles in it, and vegetables + shrimp fried in batter (paid 1600 yen for two). The couple doesn't speak English but if you say you want tempura soba, or tempura udon they will understand :) You also get a fragrant tea made from soy beans with a meal. So good! 🥣

Awesome food. Had the tempura soba. Perfect for the winter.
