Uonuma, Niigata, Japan｜Kagamigaike on the Lake

I went on a weekday for lunch. Water, tea, and soba soup are self-service. There was okara served on the table as a service, and it was delicious! I had warm soba noodles with lots of wild vegetable tempura. It was very delicious. I ordered wild vegetable rice, but it was sold out. The leaves are starting to turn autumn, so it might get crowded. Even on weekdays, customers came in rotation. The "mom" at the store was friendly and made me feel at ease. It was a wonderful shop.

I ate goppou soba, the specialty of the restaurant, which the owner of a nearby inn taught me. It is made by kneading gopo (= Oyamabokuchi) fiber (although I didn't know the effect on the taste and flavor), and it is a slightly hard and short hand-made soba. Crushed walnuts and wasabi are also good condiments, and you can taste the uniqueness. I ate a la carte and it was delicious, but most of the customers around me asked for a set. The business hours are short, from 10:00 to 3:00 pm, so it's a good idea to go at the right time. Accounting is OK after meals. You can enjoy your meal while looking out at Kagamigaike Pond from the window seats.

Soba set meal recommended. Wild vegetables such as Kogomi can be eaten as a side dish.
