Ome, Tokyo, Japan｜Kiriyama

We love their flexible hours. Last week, after a long hike 🥾 to Unazawa Otaki Falls (海沢大滝) and Onara Pass (大楢峠), we could not find anything else open in Mitake (where our hike terminated). Thankfully, we called Kiriyama and the kind hostess welcomed us to visit. Wow. What a find! We both had "the ten seiro soba set" (pictured). We also ordered the grilled local shiitake (on skewers) and the grilled duck with white leek. The grilled items came salted, without sauce, which was perfect. We didn't have to add a thing. The second time we visited, there were thankfully other customers enjoying this delicious food. The soba is made on the premises. And we assume the wasabi is also locally sourced (the area is famous for it). We hope that after the pandemic passes, places like this will thrive again. We will return, for sure. Thank you, きり山! Oh, one more thing. If you are coming up from the riverwalk (highly recommended!), look for the sign and stairs that lead up to the restaurant. They are steep but secure. We tried them today after it rained and had no trouble going up or coming back down.
