On the more expensive side, but very very good. The restaurant is in a really cozy and charming house. Menu is in Japanese only.

I really wanted to eat Mugi Toro in Hakone, so I found this restaurant while looking for it with a friend. I didn't have a car so I took a bus to get there. It was a warm shop like a private house. It was a set meal with tororo soba or wheat roe, but I was curious about both … My friend and I decided to have two Mugitoro set meals each and share one soba. I also consulted the store clerk about the amount, but in conclusion, this way of ordering was really good! Tororo soba is a rural soba, so the noodles were thick. I could feel the taste of soba, and it was very delicious with the gently entwined grated yam. And what I was most looking forward to was the Mugitoro set meal…! It came with barley rice, grated yam, condiments, clear soup, and dried horse mackerel. The tororo is soy sauce-flavored for soba, and miso-flavored for rice, so I'm glad I ate both! Mugitoro was delicious. And what I was worried about in the review was the dried horse mackerel. I don't know how it was grilled, but it was very salty and I was deeply moved by its deliciousness...! Even horse mackerel was getting more and more rice. If I was careful, I could eat a little bit of the bones, so I ate the skin as well. I forgot to take a picture, but the fact that you can eat dried fish is also a good point of the mugitoro set meal. I thought it was a hidden gem. I want to stop by when I go to Hakone again! Thank you for the meal.

A barley-toro restaurant located in a secluded section of Sengokuhara. A noren casually hangs at the entrance of the building, which is thought to have originally been a villa. The inside of the store is comfortable with natural light, and you can feel the taste of the Art Deco-style interior. Mugi-toro made with Japanese yam is recommended. Grated yam soba noodles are the most delicious.
