Gobō, Wakayama, Japan｜Tonkatsu Ichiban

Homey local Tonkatsu place which seems to be ranked as one of the best Tonkatsu restaurants in Wakayama. The tonkatsu with ponzu dipping sauce seems to be the most popular menu item during lunch hours. It contains raw egg, grated daikon and chill, green onions and dried seaweed on the side. I had never seen that kind of dipping sauce before. I personally liked the shredded cabbage salads mixed with Shiso herbs in it. I even had it without any dressings since everything, including the miso soup had a strong taste. We went there around 1 pm on Tuesday. We were so lucky to be able to park our car right in front of the restaurant.

If you're from Osaka, you probably know this, but I think the owner, who trained at some point at a long-established tonkatsu restaurant in Osaka, opened his shop in Gobo City. This time, I received a beef cutlet for 1,700 yen, a small rice bowl for 150 yen, and a small pork soup for 150 yen. The batter is thin and the fried meat is crispy. Delicious beef cutlet with just the right amount of heat! The demi-glace is a strong brown color, so I thought it would be a little bitter, but it was a light demi-glace that suppressed the bitterness well, and although it wasn't very sweet, it was a rich and delicious sauce🤤 The pork soup was red miso based and was also consistently delicious. Thank you for your meal.

It was my first time to come here for lunch when I went to work! I had this kind of sauce for the first time! The pork miso soup was also great! This is 1,050 yen!
