Ordered the assorted Mochi cooked traditional over charcoal open fire, had the assorted 6 sticks ¥900 with 2 mochi, 2 fried tofu, 1 fish (herring), 1 konnyaku type thing freshly cooked to order + sake ¥300 sitting on the straw mat patio terrace enjoying our snack. Perfectly cooked and such a cute family run traditional tea house

Ohide-chaya restrant is very famous with Dengaku, Japanese local foods. Dengaku is served with Tofu (soy bean curd), Mochi (rice cake), Kon-nyaku (arum root cake), and Nishin (herring fish) are baked and coated with a sweet miso. Dengaku was served for busy workers to keep their energy and nutrients instantly. Herrings are brought here in the mountain side with dried condition since old days and were very important proteins for people. Free parking is available and may be busy during holiday seasons. Dengaku is also available at Mitsutaya in the down town of Aizuwakamatsu.

A long-established teahouse in Aizu with a history of 300 years. Founded during the Enpo era (1673-1681). There are Aizu's three major teahouse cuisines: ``Goshimizu Tempura'' on the old Takizawa Kaido, ``Ichinoki no Botara'' on the old Nikko Kaido, and ``Oshu Chaya Dengaku'' on the Higashiyama Kaido. Mochi, fried tofu, dried herring, taro, etc. are baked with a secret miso that has been preserved for generations. It is the basis of the food culture of the village of Aizu, deep in the mountains, and the time spent waiting for dengaku with the sweet smoke that resonates in the hearts of Aizu people is nothing short of blissful. While I was waiting, I looked around the store and saw colored papers from the great masters of the Showa era on display. It is very moving to think that the great masters also enjoyed this dengaku. When you look at the piping hot dengaku, you can't help but smile. If the situation allows, I will be happiest eating while drinking sake. Even after eating, the scent of dengaku leaves you feeling happy on your way home. It's a food that makes me feel glad that I'm from Aizu.
