Omachi, Nagano, Japan｜儘に(mamani)

Heard from a couple of locals that this was a great place to get oyaki. Apparently they have some original innovations on a venerable tradition. Alas, we didn’t manage to drop by during open hours, but it’s number one on our list next time we pass through Azumino.

It was sold out, but I didn't know that and couldn't give up, so I called the intercom lol (sorry...) She seemed apologetic and said they had it frozen, so I bought it as a souvenir without hesitation!! They taught me carefully and I had a lot of fun chatting with them. When I went home, the miso and caramel apple were packed full of toppings and delicious!! I thoroughly enjoyed it...I hope to come back someday so I can have it piping hot at the store! There are 4 types of frozen items in a set of 2!

This is an oyaki specialty store located in a renovated old folk house that blends in with the Azumino scenery. It is said that there is a cafe attached, but it is open during the winter, but unfortunately it was closed when I visited in early March. There were 6 types of oyaki and focaccia that day. All of them have very cute designs and are made with a lot of attention to detail. When I took it home and tried it, it was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, somewhat like bread. The batter was thin and I had to eat all the ingredients inside, but it was well-balanced and delicious. The simple but heartfelt packaging also evoked the atmosphere of the shop.
