Onomichi, Hiroshima, Japan｜Gyuchan Onomichi

Having Discovered this place via my book The Rough Guide of Japan, I had high hopes as the recommendations for food establishments in the rough guide were always exemplary. This restaurant was no exception. A yakiniku and ramen restaurant, We just went for ramen and I can safely say it's the best ramen I've had in Japan so far. I got the extra large of their classic Onomichi ramen, which comes out at just 900 yen. The Mouth watering bowl comprised of a great hunk of pork, very thin noodles, green onions, and many cubes of fat placed liberally amongst the other ingredients. This creates a truly remarkable ramen. It may be considered unappealing to have cubes of fat in ramen however it actually enhances it greatly by soaking up even more flavours from the broth. This ramen convinced me that thinner noodles are superior as when chomping through a bundle, it soaks more broth and flavour into every bite. A hearty, delicious ramen that will fill your belly and fill you with delight. I also purchased some side dishes, most notable of which was the Yakiniku rice bowl, a heaping portion of succulent, smoky, marinated beef and pork over a generous portion of rice. Accompanied with the ramen, there was no way you were going to leave either hungry or unsatisfied. As soon as you walked in, the staff warmly greeted us and provided great service despite the language barrier. Overall it was most probably the best ramen I have ever had and one of the best value for money establishments I have been to in Japan. I will definitely be back at some point and I strongly urge you to do the same.

We had a wonderful experience! I chose the pork ramen and my husband took kobe beef - both very delicious! The service was perfect! Not only that, but my husband accidentally dropped money while leaving the restaurant and the lady was running after us to give it back! In love with this country

Really glad to have found this place on a rainy day with my family. Top ramen and yakiniku combo! Makes me want to have seconds. Great price and big serving. Definitely recommend! Special thanks to the handsome staff who gave my daughter complimentary candy on the way out!
