Kitakata, Fukushima, Japan｜Torisoba Nikomi Wa

Kitakata, known for its ramen (it is said), was for us a pretty ordinary town. We were staying in the mountains nearby, though, and had recently seen this place on a YouTube channel we sometimes watch, so decided to come over for lunch. Located down an alley off a main street, it might not look like much but this place serves up a mean chicken broth ramen (somewhat unusual). The broth is flavourful and rich without being too greasy, and the ramen noodles perfectly al dente. The chashu pork was excellent and well seasoned. The owner was friendly and the restaurant was basic but just what we wanted on a cold winter day. Recommended!! (Forgot to take a photo of the actual ramen, so here is one of the owner at work, instead!)

I stopped by because I was staying at a nearby hotel after touring. I was disappointed that there was no stew, but I was able to talk about motorcycles and had a lot of fun drinking it. I had the tori soba with soy sauce, and I loved how the soup went so well with the noodles! I will stop by when I stop by again.
