Atami, Shizuoka, Japan｜Unamasa

Very delicious, a small shop run by a couple next to Atami Station, there are not many places, and it specializes in eels. The freshly grilled Kabayaki eel melts in the mouth, very rich, and the side dishes are also great. The amount of eel is very large, and the middle portion is full. Will come again.

Very good but extremely long waiting times as there are only two tables which can seat a maximum of 3 people each. The owner is very jovial and friendly. There are only 3 choices for the menu - regular, large or extra large sized unagi on top of rice + condiments and a soup. While the current unagi served is from Kagoshima, it is excellent as they are the delicate smaller sized eels with no fishiness whatsoever. A very fine tasting unagi with a sauce that does not overpower the fish. Highly recommended if you can spare a couple of hours.

I had very good eel/unagi/うなぎ at a very small restaurant near Atami Station. This family-owned restaurant has been there for over 40 years according to the owner.
