Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi, Japan｜Uroko (Fish Scales)

Hidden gem in Kawaguchiko area. This place is so local I think the owners don’t even speak English. Yet you can still feel their hospitality, and their grilled eel was excellent! Their special condiment matches perfectly with the eel, I think it was some herbs/citrus-like taste? Do try it as it will be taking your taste buds to another world! The owner also gave us a pack of chocolate as a gift. How generous!

I really hate unagi dishes but this completely changed my mind (to the extent I literally do not want to eat another unagi dish in Kyoto/osaka/tokyo lest it ruined this beautiful experience). Looks like a family owned restaurant - owner can’t speak english but very hospitable. We even got some free meiji chocolate bar as a gift after the amazing meal. If you’re in the kawaguchiko area, make sure to stop by! PS.They only serve one dish but they bushido-ed it to perfection.

Super friendly service from this place. They provide warm towels when you arrive. The food (which is mostly unagi) is really delicious and tasty. When finished, the owner gave us typical Japanese biscuits as souvenirs haha. Recommended!
