Gotemba, Shizuoka, Japan｜妙見

After walking several blocks and finding many restaurants closed (Sunday in October) we were delighted to find this treasure. We had a plate of sushi and a plate of shashimi and the sushi was the best I have ever had. Delicious.

The best meal we’ve had during our 6 weeks in Japan! The chefs “best of the best” sushi was outstanding. We drank local sake which was delish. The restaurant itself is a feast for the eyes, bamboo screening a lovely little garden, and gorgeous wood walkway with glass cut outs! The service was impeccable and for three of us a very reasonable ¥19000 about $58 per head... Wonderful!!

I received the eel juzen ``kame''. What surprised me was the stew that came out first. I thought it was amazing to see that each ingredient had a different seasoning and was stewed separately. It's really delicious. The surface of the eel was fragrant and nicely grilled, and the seasoning was just right. Coffee agar for dessert. It was delicious till the end. I was soothed by the warm and heartfelt customer service of the proprietress, and I learned a lot about how a long-established store that has been in business for 88 years is different.
