Nakatsugawa, Gifu, Japan｜うなぎ料理山品

Great Unagi!! Master has been there for decades. Add your pin to the world map that shows where his customers have come from and you’ll see he has served people from all over the world. We were the first from Hawaii! Yaaay. I think he can do some English so if you are a foreigner looking for a great, traditional unagi meal this is the place to go. He is more than happy to welcome you. Steps away from Nakatsugawa station. Go for the 上うなぎ. The better grade is called “jyo” (上)

The food there was amazing. We went there for dinner on our visit for the trail, and although my experience with unagi is admittedly limited, it was the best I had so far. The owners/staff were also extremely friendly and helpful. They spoke effectively no English, and the menu was in Japanese as well, so using a translator app was almost a requirement, but they really did bend over backwards to serve as best as possible. I would highly recommend this place for some nice eel dishes. (PS, they also make really good local dessert, there was a picture on the wall and it looked like ice cream from afar).

Such a lovely little spot with excellent food. We wandered in with our suitcases on the way to Magome and they couldn’t have been more kind and hospitable. And the grilled eel was the best we’ve had!
