Nagaoka, Niigata, Japan｜釜飯と鍋料理 割烹 春六 長岡店

Our first meal in Japan at the start of a 16 day roadtrip across Western Japan. The eel was to die for, crispy on the outside and tender enough to melt on the inside. The female owner is a huge supporter of her home town Nagaoka and is happy to chat and give reccomendations for places to see and things to do around town. The atmosphere is pure Japanese, tatami private rooms for dining and old wood everywhere. A quick 10 minute walk from Nagaoka station down a quiet street. A hidden secret you shouldn't miss.

My son ordered the eel on rice and I ordered the eel bowl. The rice, eel, liver soup, and pickles were all excellent. It was a shop that entered casually, but it was a great answer. When I come to Nagaoka again, I will go to eat.
