Matoitei has been near Chiba station for a long time, that is why there are many Matoitei’s fans around there. When it comes to lunchtime, not only mom friends and local people but also some hungry workers and students come to the cafe to eat lunch. This is because the number of offices and schools around Chiba station is large. The last time when I visited there, I saw that some students, workers and even JR staffs were coming. When you visit Matoitei, it is better to go there by walking from the station than using your car because Matoitei doesn’t have its own parking space. However, you can go to the cafe by car also if you want, because there are a lot of parking lots around the area. The location is a little hard to understand for the first time, and it is on the second floor of a building, so you have to go up the stairs. Nevertheless, many customers come to Matoitei, and it is the proof that this cafe is great and attractive. The owner makes all meals and sweets from scratch, so all special recipes are original and it is impossible to recreate them at home. There are various spaghetti and sweets menus, additionally, some of them are seasonal so you can enjoy original meals with good select vegetables and fruits which are in season. This autumn, my recommendation of spaghetti menu is “Creamy soup spaghetti with garlic sautéed shrimps and mushrooms.” This spaghetti’s cream soup is literally creamy and pretty rich just like the milky cream stew, however, not too much salty and it includes grated potato as an amazing accent so you never get tired of eating. Also, this mild soup hits the spot with garlic sautéed shrimps and mushrooms, and the smell of garlic whets your appetite definitely. I recommend ordering the lunch-set during lunch time. It offers very tasty spaghetti, a cold or hot drink and, and you can choose another side dish from three options: a salad, a piece of homemade cake or one scoop of homemade ice cream. Besides, you can choose the kind of cakes from a showcase. Among them, I especially like “Hot Apple pie.” The pie is caramelized bitterly, and it is match a vanilla ice cream which is melting by the heat of pie. One cut of pie is full of chunky apple compotes which are well simmered until being golden brown. It will no doubt make you satisfied. The owner offers this lunch-set for 1,250 yen from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Most customers choose this set menu because it is really reasonable, but you should be careful about that you can’t order it every Sunday and public holidays. It is a cozy little cafe and the tables are close together, so some people might feel that it’s hard to wind down. However, every customer enjoys easy time to eat, drink, read a book or talk with your friends, families or someone else. If you have a chance to go near Chiba station, I recommend having lunch or dinner at Kutsurogidokoro CAFE Matoitei.
