Nikko, Tochigi, Japan｜Hatsuishi cafe

Didn't expect to find such a nice place tucked away off the main street from the station to the main Nikko temple. Hatsuishi is well decorated, quiet music and just generally a nice vibe. The prices are also decent for what you get (good red bean 🫘 dessert/sweets including Nikko's famous sui-yōkan, sake manju) with drinks including some good green tea and matcha. I'm sure this place will be busy usually but luckily we didn't wait (came during the week around 4pm). Would love to come again.

Went here on a very chilly and rainy day. It’s a beautiful and very cozy cafe, all with wood and even a little fire place. I ordered the toast set menu including Azuki and Matcha Butter. I loved the Matcha Azuki combination on some freshly toasted Japanese bread. Probably the best on their menu! I can only recommend this cafe to everyone who’s around in this area for a little stop by :)

I was so surprised at how delicious this place was. It's a hidden gem. Such flavorful and elegant desserts. I wish I liked in Nikko so I could visit more often.
