Nagano, Japan｜薄利多売半兵ヱ 長野駅前店

Was wandering around trying to find a place that would serve foreigners at around 10pm. Many places turned us down, came across this place and it was possibly the highlight of my Japan trip. The food was amazing, the cost was cheap, the translations on the English menu were hilarious, and most importantly, the atmosphere was unlike anything else. This restaurant is stuck in time, it really felt like I stepped back into 1980’s Japan. All of the salarymen came by after work for a dinner, a beer, and a cigarette. I’m not a fan of smoking inside restaurants, but somehow it added to the ambience. Truthfully the only reason I’m leaving this review is so that I know the name in case I ever find myself in the Nagano area in the future.

Great Showa atmosphere with good food and drinks at ridiculously low prices. I am not sure why the score is not higher for this place, we had a great time and ate a lot / drank a lot while enjoying the décor. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Been around for a long time. Has english menu. Very smoky at times.
