Had dinner with my stepfather, mom, and sister. They read and speak Japanese, and they ordered vegetarian friendly okonomiyaki for me... Maybe you can just explain to the staff, if you are vegetarian, that you don't eat anything that has animals, like pork, shrimp, squid, and etc... We had something that has some cheese and it was very delicious.
