Nozawaonsen, Nagano, Japan｜Banri

We loved our experience at Banri. Our hotel had made a booking for us a few days ahead which was lucky as they were only open for those who had booked, there appeared to be quite a few people trying to walk in and get a table that were turned away. Initial service was a little slow and not particularly attentive, however once we had ordered they were very fast with bringing food. The food was delicious and was a great experience and something a bit different from what we’d tried on other nights in Japan. The novelty of cooking on the mini barbecue was great for the kids, and the flavours were delicious. We tried the beef and lamb and a few different veggies and each had a small bowl of rice. The dipping sauce was awesome. As per other reviews we did leave smelling like the cooking, so keep that in mind (don’t wear best clothes perhaps) My only other negative was that we could not buy wine by the glass, they only sold full bottles. They do have sake hot or cold and draft beer though. Kids drinks which were Yuzu soda were delicious!! We found it to be good value for money too.

Genghis khan and beef are so good. We really enjoy the food there.

Banri in Nozawa Onsen is a hidden gem of a BBQ spot that I stumbled upon after a long day on the mountain. Good fun cooking your food on a hot plate and the quality of the meat was top-notch. I particularly enjoyed the lamb and beef, which were juicy and flavorful. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was excellent. If you're looking for a perfect spot to unwind and satisfy your hunger after a day of skiing or snowboarding, Banri is the place to go. Highly recommended!
