We randomly stopped by this place and found a gem in the city. Food was amazing and sake was an another level. If you happen to try this place, ask for a sake recommendation. We visited this place again on our last day in Tokyo. Everything here did not cease to amaze us.

Our last night in Japan we wanted to have an izakaya for the sake and diverse dishes. We found Ponshuya near our hotel (torrential rains). We were pleasantly surprised to find they had an English menu and that the waitress could speak some English because everyone in the izakaya were locals. We ordered 6 dishes and they were all really delicious---our favorite was the grilled miso pork and the spicy mince meat udon. The grilled ostrich is a unique dish and served with a lovely onion sauce. The service was very good, the waitress gave a great sake recommendation and we had a nice chat with her. The chef was very nice and he served many of our dishes personally.

What a gem I went here alone since my friends went elsewhere due to miscommunication. Quite funny. The cute female bartender gave me drinks and even gave me an English menu. The curry Udon was something I've never seen before. It was very interesting and delicious. Everything had a good price. The paper that held the chopsticks could be folded into Mount Fuji. It becomes chopstick holders. Fantastic! I wish I ordered more food.
