A traditional unagi house with exceptional twists. Service was speedy and friendly despite being packed just 20minutes after their lunch opening. I was thinking of wine for a change, seeing bottles of past bottles lining the staircase as we made our way up to the 2nd floor. I asked about the wine selection and the lady of the house presented her badge of honor as a certified sommelier! She suggested a white as pairing that I gladly went with. Everything was priced well on the menu. Our unagi came and it was top notch. As the previous reviews noted, don’t expect a syrupy sweet sauce. But this one has great depth and I deeply enjoyed the savoury meat and wonderful smoky char, with a sip of crisp dry white for good balance. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Unassuming. We stayed at an airbnb nearby and walked pass this small unagi restaurant a few times but it was always closed. On our last day, we tried our luck and damn… last day luck was on our side. Felt good that this was our last meal in Tokyo before our flight. If you are in the area, please make sure you come around 11-ish otherwise, you'd be disappointed.

This is an eel restaurant in Higashiueno. We wanted to celebrate everything, so we decided to have eel for lunch. Although it was almost the last order, they kindly guided us around. I received a large bottle of beer, and I would like to top it off right away. When you open the lid, Kabayaki is smiling at you. Judging from the appearance, I'm sure it's delicious. Trying to suppress my excitement, I take a sip first. It's baked fluffy. The sauce is moderately sweet. It has the best aroma and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The rice was soaked in the right amount of sauce and had a great taste. There is no need for poor labelling, as the taste is so delicious that you can't stop eating it with chopsticks. Thank you for the quick meal. Thanks to you, we had a great lunch. A little bit down an alley from Kasuga Street. It's a bit of a walk, but it's a nice restaurant where you can eat without putting too much effort into it.
