Narita, Chiba, Japan｜Kawatoyo annex

Truly an unexpected surprise; after a flight cancellation and recommendation by a character of a taxi driver, we were treated to an excellent experience at Kawatoyo Annex. The unagi was delicious with a bit of a char having been grilled over charcoal, the rice expertly cooked, a compliment to the delicate texture of the unagi, and the sauce had a taste and consistency which amplified the experience without overpowering. The dishes were well presented, wait staff was helpful and friendly, and the ambiance was in keeping with the traditional Japanese aesthetic. Overall an unforgettable meal.

Two people with their children ordered eel rice (one piece) and tempura rice bowl. The eel is abundant, soft, glutinous and fragrant, and even a two-year-old baby can eat it with gusto without having to worry about the fish bones. The rice was also very good. The tempura is relatively average, with a soft texture and the sauce is a bit salty in my opinion. Overall, the taste is acceptable and the price-performance ratio is first-rate.

The grilled eel is yummy. But it is always a bit too warm in the restaurant. Do understand it is normal for in Japan.
