Soja, Okayama, Japan｜お好み焼き かわ田

We found this place on Google maps when looking for Okonomiyaki restaurants. It's our first visit to Okayama as we wanted to explore Kibi plains, hence we had our lunch here before our adventure. This is the first Okonomkiyaki that we tried in Japan, and having tried another restaurant, we can say that this is the best okonomiyaki that we have ever eaten! The chef was very generous with the ingredients, the squid was so soft and the dish was very flavourful and delicious. The chef shared with us that we could use the spicy sauce which elevated the taste of the dish. Even though we had to wait ~45 mins for the dish because the chef was serving the other customers, we are very happy with our experience and would absolutely visit this place again if we are ever back in Okayama. The chef also gave us free yakult yoghurt. Thank you for a memorable Okonomiyaki experience in Japan! 😋

The inside of the store was very clean. The owner was also very friendly and made us feel comfortable. For the most important taste of okonomiyaki, I had the special soba modern, but the soba was thin and easy to eat, so I ate it all in one go. I don't usually eat Hiroshimayaki, but it was very delicious.

Ordered mixed modern green onion topi. On the table are ichimi, shichimi, two kinds of spicy condiments, super spicy sauce, regular sauce, and mayonnaise. I ate it with shichimi and super spicy sauce for the first time, and it went really well together. It was also my first time to try Soba Modern, a raw noodle dish. I was really hooked on this too. The squid and shrimp ingredients are also large and chunky. The green onions are crunchy and a nice addition. I thought it would be nice if my personal favorites, shiso leaves and mochi, were also on the menu. I was surprised that there were separate toilets for men and women. This is the first time I've seen a private shop do this much. I was convinced that the store was clean not only because it was new, but also because of the owner's personality. It has become my favorite okonomiyaki restaurant.
