Kobe, Hyogo, Japan｜Macky

This was the most memorable meal I had in Kobe. Macky-san was very welcoming and friendly. I had the Kobe-style Okonomiyaki and the Macky Chicken. The okonomiyaki was crispy on the outside and slightly runny on the inside, a great balance for my taste bud goes great with the cold draft beer. The highlight of was the Macky chicken. The chicken was grilled to perfection; it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and when paired with the spicy sauce and fried shallots it creates a very nice balance of flavors. Last but not least, Macky-san is super down to earth, we had a great time conversing during my meal and he runs the restaurant all by himself! I got to learned that he was an avid hiker/jogger and often photograph scenic areas of his hike which he displayed on his restaurant walls.

Firstly, I had Okonomiyaki in Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima and didn’t like it. I LOVED it at Macky. Completely different. Fresh and delicious. Be sure to accompany it with the Sapporo on tap. Macky is a legend as well as a great chef. Thanks mate.

Great guy, show cooking. I was alone at the restaurant and answered me all the questions while cooking. Sobameshi is a must there, tasty!! I didn't have time to take his macky chicken speciality but would love to.
