Kobe, Hyogo, Japan｜Sushi Matsuda

Towards the end of our three week trip in Japan we had booked a night in an Airbnb in Kobe. Since we were tired from a busy day, we decided to find a place to eat somewhere closeby and used Google reviews as a reference. Looking for sushi we choose Matsuda based on the 5 reviews it had at the time. None of them with any explanation. The restaurant was empty at the time of arrival. We sat at the bar, across the chef and the waitress wanted to take our order for drinks. There was no English menu available but ordering beer and hot green tea was easy. Then we were ready to order our dinner, a bit more tricky with no menu available but we decided to let the chef choose his pick and we would just eat what he would serve. The waitress used google translate to communicate here and there and we found that really helpful. The sushi was delicious. Really tasty and good. And I think we had a good walk through the menu, we each had 13 pieces of sushi (only eel and tuna twice the rest were all other types of sushi). And we asked them to make up a bento box with another 12 pieces for the next day's lunch. In total we had two drinks and 38 pieces of really good sushi. The bill was just a number on the calculator (8000 Yen) we honestly don't know whether this is the tourist price or not. It was worth it for sure, but it is the most expensive meal we have had in Japan. And since this restaurant has only five reviews and no marking on Tripadvisor we are not too sure... However comparing this to a Dutch price for really good sushi we figured ah.. whatever. We enjoyed it, they were really kind and helpful and we got a little present upon leaving. So that is why I am still giving it a 5-star rating. I'd recommend going just keep in mind that you might want to check the prices and your own budget.

I had always wanted to go there because I had heard it was recommended, but I finally decided to visit for lunch for the first time. The fugu sashimi was voluminous and delicious! I tried the recommended nigiri, and they were all delicious.

No matter what you eat ❗ Both ate and one item have a moderate volume, so it is easy to share even if you go with multiple people. The place is difficult to find and difficult to enter, but the friendly general welcomes you, which is a relief. The price you care about is really conscientious ❗ Please put up with the rotating sushi several times and go by all means. You'll understand if you go~
