Never expected to get such authentic and spicy mapo tofu in Japan! Enjoyed the numbing spiciness. We couldn't read the Japanese menu so we relied on recommendations from the people at the shop. All 3 dishes recommended were really good and went very well with a warm bowl of rice.

The chef has worked with Chinese chefs in Tokyo, and the mapo tofu he made is superb. It can be said that it is more authentic than most Sichuan restaurants in China. For lunch, there is a mapo tofu set meal for 1,300 yen, and in the evening, a small portion for one person is 980 yen. In addition, there are braised pork rice, dumplings, etc., and for those who want to eat vegetables, the only green vegetable in the whole place is probably this coriander (looking at me, the lady kindly sells it in half portions) . Back to Mapo Tofu, you can eat a lot of minced meat, you can taste the bean paste flavor (without beans), and the black pepper flavor (without black pepper powder), the sprinkling of Beijing onion is minced, not chopped green onion. But it is perfect enough. These small details do not affect the appearance and taste at all. It is better than restaurants in Nepal, Europe, Hong Kong, and even many Sichuan restaurants! The clerk asked me how it tasted and if it was "close"? I answered "authentic, even better than most restaurants" and asked her to tell the chef.
