Nagahama, Shiga, Japan｜Kyogoku Sushi

I had no idea that delicious Edomae sushi existed in Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture of all places. If you love sushi, you must do yourself a favor and order the 15 piece omakase set. Save your money and a trip to Tokyo! The sushi chef demonstrates complete mastery of each fish, the cut, the prep, the texture, everything. No need to dip anything in soy sauce, as each piece is perfectly and lightly seasoned, marinated, seared or aged. See the photos for a truly magical experience in Kurokabe Square. Although we were stuffed, we still ordered a chirashi sushi to bring home and eat with sake. Everything was delicious, but my favorites were the nodoguro and the aji with umeboshi inside. Delicious!!

Great value for money. I ate a lot and billed me ¥11400. The fish is very juicy. (You won’t say it is fresh because that’s the basic requirement in Japan. ) The chef is good at shimemono. The Kohada, Iwashi are exceptional. I ordered them twice separately. His sushi is not big which is good because I can have varieties before getting full. His sushi’s shape is beautiful and no too much unnecessary decorations. We chatted and knew he likes Mizutani san’s sushi a lot. No wonder. Another thing I liked here is that you could order what you like. Set courses are offered but it’s not mandatory. Highly recommended.

I visited Kyogoku-zushi, sushi restaurant, on Saturday around 3pm. This time is between lunch and dinner, so the restaurant is relatively empty. There is a tatami room and a counter, but I recommend the counter where they make and serve sushi one piece at a time. All the sushi is very tasty and the prices are very reasonable.
