Hiroshima, Japan｜Shogetsuan

Fantastic, intimate kaiseki experience. This kaiseki came recommended by our hotel and it definitely didn't disappoint. It's quite an intimate restaurant with only 6 seats but that means service is top notch, and the food absolutely delicious executed with Japanese precision. We particularly enjoyed the sashimi course, the grilled fish course (of spanish mackerel), the miso soup with a fried oyster and the first course of 16 grain rice with crab and uni were the stand outs. Could not fault a thing, and highly recommend.

We traveled all over Japan and couldn’t find a place that replicated the experience at Shogetsuan. The chef and his wife (Makoto & Miki) were super friendly, and made an extra effort to explain all the dishes to us in English, which was not their primary language. In addition, each dish was clearly made with love and careful scrutiny, and the experience was invaluable in terms of dining and the atmosphere involved. Thank you so much for giving us the meal of a lifetime. If you are in doubt, book it! Update: We got a lovely souvenir and a handwritten card from them. Six star experience.

Great dinner, definitely worth the two Michelin stars. The chef is extremely friendly and you really feel at home. A fantastic experience overall. Merci chef!
