Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan｜"Kyou, Udon"

Definitely the best food I had in Utsunomiya, possibly the best I had during my entire trip to Japan! We came here three times over the course of a two week trip. My favourite dish was probably the iced udon, which is absolutely perfect for lunch on a hot summer day. Everything here is made fresh and with great care and attention to detail. The owner, Shima, is very friendly and immediately makes you feel at home, even if you are not super familiar with the Japanese style of restaurant service (we first came here on our second day in Japan). I would highly encourage anyone visiting Utsunomiya to stop here for a meal. The local Gyoza are pretty good, yes, but this place is even better!

This udon was so delicious. So luxurious. I got the Carbonara udon (warm) with cheese and button add-ons. Please try it! 😃😃😃 Very friendly staff. We talked to each other in Japanese and English. There’s an English menu available too, by the way.

This was by far the best Udon I have had in my life! Shima has outdone himself with his foods presentation, the flavour combinations and the absolute quality of the ingredients. I went here multiple times during my time in Japan and even traveled back to Utsunomiya specifically to have his cold udon again. We even had the amazing opportunity to play games with Shima at his bar one night before close. I cant wait for the day I get to come back here again.
