Nagahama, Shiga, Japan｜Morishima Nagahama Kurokabe

The “best steak” has been used twice in my reviews. This, and Casa Julian in Tolosa, Spain. Both are equally good. I would choose Omi beef for its taste and texture, while Casa Julian for its cost-performance index. We chanced upon Morishima back in 2019 when we visited Omihachiman. Ever since, we have been longing to eat Omi beef again. When we were Nagahama this time round, I accidentally discovered Morishima had a branch here!!! Didn’t waste time to make a reservation. Omi beef, only from Morishima in Shiga prefecture (which has their own farm) is truly unique. It ranks among the best alongside Kobe and Matsuzaka — Omi is the oldest among the three, and at one time, passed off as Kobe because it was shipped there. If you are ever in Shiga, this is a must-eat. Not cheap, but worth every cent. It literally melts in your mouth, and the “beefy, fatty and milky” taste oozes with each bite. Can’t go wrong. Choose grill over any other style in medium rare at most. Thank me later. But I won’t pay for you 😝 Edit: I forgot to mention that each slice of Omi Wagyu shown could be EASILY bitten into multiple pieces with NO effort — no knife was provided or needed. Unlike other Wagyu or steak, the size you cut, is the size you will have to chew on.

Their beef is smooth, and pleasant to taste, and to eat. Environment is tranquil. Overall, an enjoyable experience.

If you don't mind paying a little extra, this is the place to experience delicious and wonderfully prepared steaks. The service is friendly but typically a bit distant and the environment is casual and relaxed. If you don't say anything your steak will come medium rare - which is the perfect way to enjoy this meal. Highly recommended.
